has come out with six guns blazing againt the Blog World (my term, blogosphere is more common). What we have here is some good ol’ professional jealousy. Now, I’m a trained journalist with a master’s degree from the University of Southern California, one of the premier journalism schools in the world, and three decades of experience. And the main point of the WSJ article was that bloggers aren’t journalists. Well, let me tell you two things: I am a blogger and a journalist with finely honed skills, and it doesn’t matter. The bloggers get at the things that the journalists suppress and overlook. Journalists need to learn some blogger techniques.
Case in point: Remember how Dan Rather ran with that story of George Bush’s alleged dereliction of National Guard duty (if not downright cheating and preferential treatment). Given the blatant bias and fabrication of Rather’s sources, did any reputable media outlet challenge the CBS liberal icon? Let’s see now: The answer is not only no, but hell no. It was the Blog World that pointed out the obvious–that the alleged documents were produced by a computer, not a typewriter, and there were no computers in use in the Bush-bashing time-frame. I rest my case. Let the Blog World rule.
