What I found most interesting was how the marchers were instructed to label a site that dared dabble in somewhat inventive methods to obtain a higher SERP (Search Engine Results Page) ranking.  The word used was “offensive.”  Now, I may be splitting hairs, but this sounds like Google is setting itself up as the one and only church of the Internet.  Google is the company that commissioned the damned algorithms it uses for searches, and if others try to outfox those algorithms, hey, that’s the name of the game–neither offensive nor laudatory.  It’s Web War and nothing else.

Google should stick to being inquisitive, not being the new Grand Inquisitor.  I thought the Web was going to take us out of the unfree, undemocratic information dark ages, not into a crusade against those of other beliefs and methods.
