Y2K Cometh Again

Despite the fact that the year 2000 was the end of the last century and not the beginning of the next (1 to 100, right?), computers faced what was then called the Y2K catastrophe.  Internal clocks might go haywire and think time was regressing from 99 to 0 and screw up everything from bank accounts to hot dates.

It’s about to happen again.

Only this time it’s because Congress pushed back the start and stop dates of daylight savings time.  Computers programmed before the law was passed in 2005 will still think they need to adjust their clocks forward by one hour on the first Sunday in April.  However, starting this year daylight savings begins on the second Sunday in March, which is Sunday, March 11.

In short, many computers may be off by an hour until the first week in April.  Even Microsoft is warning that computer calendar users ”should view any appointments…as suspect until they communicate with all meeting invitees.”

Better to just take three weeks off and head for the warm climes of Hawaii or Tahiti, I say.
