Promote Your Site With a Specific USP

A unique selling proposition (USP) is a phrase or sentence that you concoct that perfectly says what your site is all about.  For instance, “Everything you always wanted to know about Paris Hilton” (egads!) would describe a site with every last tidbit of information on the hotel heiress and erstwhile actress.

Your USP could also serve as the title tag for your home page or as an H1 headline on your home page (each page should have its own title and H1; don’t just repeat things unless you’re trying to brand yourself).

How do you come up with a unique selling proposition for your site?

First thing is to brainstorm everything you want to accomplish with your blog (or site) and then to whittle this down to what distinguishes you from everyone else.  Hopefully, once you’ve done so, you’ll have a USP that drives traffic to you (and sells whatever you’re selling–if you’re selling).

Karon Thackston seems to have the most concise explanation for you, so please read 3 Simple Rules for Creating an Effective USP.  Thank you, Karon.
