What about large sites?

Here the recommendation was that the site template (naviagation, sidebars, footer, header, etc.) be optimized while the content, which is dynamically created often through a CMS (content management system), can be more free flowing.  Thus the challenge is to a) produce an optimized template (skin as some might say) and b) evangelize contributors for the dynamic content.  By evangelizing, it was meant to train the often diverse group of people responsible for the content to use good keyword density and so on, which of course is not all that easy since most of these contributers just want to get the content in there and go do something else.

However, what I¡¯d like to add here is that, in reality, the recommendations for large sites are, in my way of thinking, not much different than those for small sites.  Work on the template first, which includes the meta stuff (URL, description, keywords and so on), and then make sure that your sidebar, footer, header–whatever–navigation systems are text-based and readable by the spiders.   When it comes to content on the individual pages, just write as you would for your friend–explain things fully and don¡¯t worry about those damn spiders.  Content rules, so be prolific.

The one bit of advice I can comfortably give in writng your content is this:  Look for opportunities where you can get rid of pronouns (it, they, these) and replace them with keyword nouns or phrases.  For instance, you may write, ¡°It is the best widget around for accomplishing xyz,¡± but if you can easily change this without sounding awkward or redundant to ¡°The AFCO widget is the best one around for accomplishing xyz,¡±Â Â then do it to be more specific and you¡¯re done your SEO duty.
