Coming to YouTube: Ads on Your Vids

As I predicted a while back, Google is now bringing its version of AdSense ads to the videos on YouTube, which it bought for $1.65 billion and is no doubt anxious to recoup some of its investment.

According to a report, one trial ad features a tiny image of Homer Simpson scrolling across the bottom of the video. If you click on it, you’re taken to a trailer for the Simpsons’ full-length movie. If you ignore it, it disappears within 10 seconds (which actually is quite a bit of time).

People have shown that they’ll put up with just about anything to get free videos (or anything else) online. Other video sites such as iFilm feature full video ads before your chosen video plays, so the Googlian approach may be less intrusive and more acceptable.

However, I wonder how many people will actually click on the floating images.
