Now how many times have I stressed that content is king here before, but let me add some tips on content that attracts visitors?

If you hear of a major event on TV, radio, newspaper, Web, wherever, and it has a legitimate tie-in with your site, get ye anon to your site and add some content–and not just a link (though you should include links too). Create some original content. If you get it up there fast enough, you even stand a chance of landing high in the SERPs for that event.

The classic example is, looking backwards, Frank Sinatra dies and you operate a music site of some sort. Pen your remembrance of the Chairman of the Board ASAP and get it up. Doing this sort of thing not only gets you immediate yet transitory traffic, but it builds up (slowly maybe) readership and repeat visitors–the best kind to have.

Another point: Don¡¯t rely on programs like RSS2Blog and a zillion others, which cull RSS feeds for your keywords and then post the content on your site or blog, to attract visitors. I have RSS feeds here and on other sites, and insofar as I can tell, no one has ever visited one of my sites because of an RSS feed.

You need to be original. Even if you can¡¯t write that well, your own words are what will attract people to your site.
