Keyword Density Clue: Avoid Pronouns

Now if we knew how Web crawlers really thought, it would certainly simplify matters, but in the meantime, one of the ground rules of getting a higher SERPs placement is having good keyword density on your Web page.

Say you’re selling Navy coffee mugs.  The idea is to use that exact phrase as many times as possible on the page without sounding redundant or stilted.

One of the keys to using that phrase a lot, which in turn revs up your keyword density (percentage of times the phrase appears in the entire page of text), is to avoid using pronouns.  Instead of saying, “Today we’re selling them at…,” say, “Today we’re selling Navy coffee mugs at….”

Again, do this only if it’s not jarring to the reader and it flows nicely.

How much density to aim for?  I’ve heard that as low as one to three percent will do the trick, while others have argued for closer to seven percent.  At any rate, going above 10 percent allegedly triggers negative vibes at Google and reflects poorly on your site.

Stay tuned for other tricks on using keywords and phrases in creative ways.
