Ring up another round for Google in monopolizing straight search queries. (Interestingly, even Google can’t escape economic reality, as its overvalued stock has now plunged 40 percent since November.) In another interesting development, Yahoo is courting Time Warner to merge its AOL unit with Yahoo. The goal is to both save money and put up a stronger defense against Microsoft’s ability to gobble up Yahoo one way or another. We’ll see how many of these search companies are left intact, or standing, as the year rolls along. Figure Google ain’t going anywhere, so the casualties will come elsewhere.
